Wynnum West State School celebrated 90 years of educating generations of Wynnum children this week. The primary school has come a long way since the doors first opened.
Today the school is home to 530 students and approximately 50 teaching and administrative staff.
Principal Julie Amos said that she was proud to be part of Wynnum West’s history.
“It’s a great honour to be leading a school with such a rich history, whilst helping to steer its way through the twenty first century.”
“In its 90 year history, the school has been through the Great Depression, the Second World War and many other major events that today’s students would find very difficult to comprehend.”
“It was humble beginnings for Wynnum West State School and I know the community is delighted to see how far we have come.” Ms Amos said.
Today the school enjoys an array of state-of-the-art technology and contemporary education facilities after being made part of the Queensland Government’s ‘State Schools of Tomorrow’ initiative in 2010.
In addition to the new facilities, the school offers interactive whiteboards in every classroom, virtual classrooms, a high-tech computer lab and student access to digital tools.
